Our story

The history of Fardem Packaging BV dates back to 1884. Entrepreneur L.J. Heijmeijer started his business at ‘t Marken in the city of Edam, where he manufactured and traded in burlap bags and burlap cloth. In 1950 he added paper to this business. That is when they started producing multi-walled paper bags. This line of business was sold to the Finnish UPM company in 1989. The foundation for the polyethylene (PE) film company was laid in 1958. They started to extrude polyethylene film and produce industrial polyethylene bags, liners and packaging film.

By now, Fardem Packaging has evolved into a leading company in the European packaging industry. In 1992, the company moved into a new factory building in the industrial park of West Edam. A low-noise, energy-efficient factory, equipped with climate control.

After more than 30 years on the current premises, Fardem is ready for the next step, and a new future is being built on the terrain, with great attention to the human factor and the environment. Various new buildings and machines will ensure that this experienced packaging manufacturer will continue developing in the right direction. During Fardem’s long history, we have had various owners, among which is DSM. Since January 1st, 2012, Fardem Packaging is a part of the OPACKGROUP, a group of seven manufacturers with ten production sites, with its main office in Genderen, in the province of Brabant.

Fardem Packaging produces and supplies a full range of specialized, flexible films and packaging in plastic variants. Fardem Packaging is part of the OPACKGROUP: seven manufacturers, ten production sites, independent research lab, inhome reprographics and more than 750 professionals with huge experience! We would like to unburden you; from design to packaging production and implementation.
